PROFESSIONAL ALTERATIONS IN NEW YORK CITY, NY
Tailoring your clothes can even make them look more expensive than they really are. "A properly fitted garment makes all the difference in the world."
Tailoring and alterations are more than just a professional service; they are also an art form. At Wo's Custom Tailoring in New York City, NY, our skilled tailors have experience, knowledge, and passion for tailoring and for making you look your best. If you are looking for a better fit or a more unique style for your existing clothes, come visit us today and ask about our expert alterations for clothing.
PROFESSIONAL ALTERATIONS
We understand that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work for most people because our bodies are all beautifully unique in their shapes and sizes. Buying mass-produced clothes off the rack is certainly convenient but can also leave you wanting something more catered to your body. If that is the case for you, visit Wo's Custom Tailoring today.
DRESSES AND BLOUSES
Are you absolutely love a top or a dress but hate how the neckline doesn’t exactly flatter your flat chest (or large chest, or narrow shoulders, or broad shoulders...)? We can reinvent it! We can work with you to switch the neckline— removing the collar from a button-down or turning a crewneck into a boatneck—so it provides the most flattering silhouette, or just the right amount of modesty (or lack thereof).
We can shorten straps so that your dress or top raises to fit through your torso and has properly placed bust darts and underarms.
We can line a sheer garment with your shade of nude (the color most complementary to your skin tone) to enable you to wear regular undergarments under it.
If your dress feels right in the front, but the back or back neckline is too large. We will remove some of this excess on fit-and-flare dresses or any dress with an inset waistband.
Any change in the center back seam with a zipper will affect the position of the zipper opening. Even if you're only taking it in at the top, we need to remove your zipper partially or entirely due to that length change.
To accomplish this, we pin-fit the dress and mark the new center back seam. We add your seam allowances, being careful not to make it too tight. After marking the new stitch line and new seam allowances, we cut off the excess and reinsert the zipper, lining it up at the top and pinning it all the way down. We find a bit of hand basting here helps to get that zipper in smoothly and make sure the seams align at the waist.
SUIT JACKETS AND BLAZERS
There are various alterations that we do to ensure the perfect fit. We raise or lower the collar, shorten or lengthen sleeve at shoulder top or sleeve end, rotate sleeves, pad or un-pad shoulders, reduce or increase shoulder points, narrow or shorten lapels, reduce or reshape the chest, take-in or let-out back and waist, close vents as needed, relocate or add pockets, or shorten body length.
PANTS
To ensure the ideal fit for pants we do more than adjust the waist or pant leg hem, we also shorten crotch depth, shorten the rise, full thigh adjustment, lengthen the back rise, taper or widen leg, These details will make you feel better while extending the life of your pants or trousers.
Stitch down and remove the front pockets of your pants to create a smoother, slimmer effect.
JEANS
We will maintain the original look, feel and style of your jeans while making alteration so your jeans look like they were custom-made for you. We hem to avoid fabric pooling on top of your shoes and creating a bunched-up shape. As appropriate we will sew either lockstitch, or chain-stitch. Most importantly we can keep your original hem. It preserves the natural puckered fades of the jean which would otherwise be lost in a basic hem. We taper your jeans legs if they aren’t slim enough for your liking.
For selvedge-loving denim-heads, we taper your jeans from either inseam or outseam.
We will adjust the waist of your jeans to ensure a more elegant fit. This is more of a delicate procedure because jeans aren’t built with easily altered seat and waist. We take in the waist at the back, directly in the center. It requires a surgical hand to undo and re-stitch them. The seat is the trickiest alteration to have done.
We strive to make sure that our clients are 100% happy with the alteration work performed before leaving with the altered garment. After your clothing has had its alterations, we are happy to schedule a fitting in a private dressing room so you can try on your clothes and can ensure everything is to the correct specifications before leaving our property.
You can view our alteration prices below, but please note that prices are estimates and may vary according to the garment you bring in and how much work is required.
